This Anubis is 32cm high. It is a beautiful statue from myths and legends the Egyptian collection. The jackal-headed god,was the god of the dead. He supervises the weighing of the soul when they are brought to the hall of the dead. He was the guide for the dead as they trail through the darkness of the underworld. Anubis was painted black to further link him with the deceased- a body that has been embalmed became a pitch black color. Black was also the color of fertility, and thus linked to death and rebirth in the afterlife

As far back as 5000 years ago, the cat has symbolized prosperity and protection for various cultures. The cat was seen as a symbol of prosperity because it protected the grain from the rats, in ancient Egypt and Sudan. In japan, one of the stories about Maneki Neko is that a cat used to sit in front of the Gotokuji Temple in Tokoyo, and held up its paw to beckon people in. The temple still exists today and cat lovers go there to pray for good health of their pets. This is just one of the many stories about Maneki Neko.
